"The Muse Online
Writers Conference is an amazing concept. I will plug it
from now until next year's. It is an astounding opportunity for
writers to learn their craft, or a new one, get advice and tips,
network, and move forward in their careers.
"What I don't think you and Lea realize is the blessing this type
of conference is for those with disabilities who can't physically go
to one, and for those who may not be able to afford to attend
conferences. It allows us to partake of the knowledge and experience
of wonderful writers, authors, editors, marketers, and publishers.
And, it gives us the opportunity to PITCH OUR WORK!
"I couldn't be more thankful and appreciative of your time, effort,
and the obvious caring that goes into these amazing conferences."

Michelle Graff Credits the
Muse Conference with Her Poetry Success.
Her letter illustrates how
education at conferences can work for you.
"I'm SOOO excited -- my poem "Poetry's Heartbeat" is in the
January 2008 issue of The Desert Woman Magazine.
"This issue is absolutely the best ever -- and not just because
I'm in it. Publisher Barbara McClure is a warm,
wonderful person, and the DW is her baby. Every article is
clear, full of insight about finding our own path, making
choices, embracing that which helps us move forward. I'm truly
blown away to be part of this.
"I met Carolyn Howard-Johnson (co-Muse Conference Founder) in
Dec. 2005, when she was a panelist at the DW mini Book Fair (a
luncheon the newspaper sponsors each December in the Palm
Springs desert). When Carolyn talked about seeing the world in
images, it struck me like lightning. We talked after her
presentation, and she encouraged me to see my poetry with open eyes.
We've kept in touch off and on since then; she's always
funny and supportive.
Tip
Be careful that the
classes or conferences you invest your time in (free or
otherwise) are vetted. Check credentials of the instructors.

"The first poem I sent to the Desert Woman was published
March 2006. The next one I sent was part of their special
Thanksgiving issue. Poetry Editor Dessa Reed is the
kind of editor I hope to have with other projects someday. She
understands how much our words mean to us, and skillfully helps
sharpen them even more.
"And now this one -- about creating more fulfilling lives for
ourselves.
"Because of The Desert Woman, I met Carolyn. Because of
Carolyn, I made my first poetry submission. Through Carolyn's
Sharing with Writers
newsletter, I discovered The MUSE CONFERENCE. Through the
Muse Conference, I've learned so much, and written more -- shared
much more -- and gained greater belief in myself and my abilities.
"Thank you, Carolyn and Lea. Thank you, Alpha Musers (my on-line
non-fiction critique group. They had nothing to do with my poem,
but much to do with my confidence.) Thank you, the rest of the
Muses in our Universe."
~ Michele Graf, poet and author.

"Carolyn Howard-Johnson makes it easy, gives you the switches that can
turn you and even the most cold-blooded editor on.
Try it. I'm taking this little booklet and having it tattooed on my
inner arm. It's going to be useful to you, I promise. And if you aren't
a writer, and you know one, send it on. They'll love it. "

"I have been a professional writer 40 years, and am also a
tenured full professor of journalism. Carolyn's Sharing with
Writers newsletter is most useful for me--and for my
students. I emphasize to them that while research is 90% of
writing, and the actual writing is about 10%, there's another
100% out there called promotion. Carolyn shows numerous ways to
get the message to the mass media."

One of
the most frequent mistakes writers make is switching genres without
