These are large digital
printers (sometimes called print-on-demand). They are
suggested only for those who want to truly self-publish. If
this is your first effort at self-publishing —remember
that is different from subsidy-publishing when you have
someone else help you publish your book under their ISBN
number—I recommend you use a book shepherd like Joyce
Faulkner at
katieseyes@aol.com.
By the way, I love CreateSpace.com for those
who are savvy enough to publish completely on their own. Don't be
fooled by the services they offer. You publish free on this site
except for the services you contract out. I have never used their
marketing or publishing services. So you're on your own researching
those. I have used their free cover templates which are still a bit
tricky, but generally satisfying enough, especially for promotional
books.

Dear
Carolyn,
Since learning about your fantastic marketing Web sites
and books,
I've not only recommended them to others, but also am
drawing heavily
upon your marketing expertise for Port Yonder Press, a
newer indie
press from Iowa that I'm working with. Bless you and
your marvelous
wisdom, especially for all of us who must market largely
on our own.
