Tip

Did you know you can be a reviewer?
Amazon.com wants YOU.
Every book sold on this site has a place for you to weigh in on what you liked and what you didn't. You can even voice your opinion on what you think of others' reviews. I vote when I like one but true to Flower's advice in the Disney film Bambi, I try not to say anything if I can't say something nice! (-:  When you place a review, subtly mention your book in a little credit line, but don't use a link. That's an Amazon no-no.

Tip

If you hate propaganda, read no farther. I believe that every reading club, book club, and yes, individual reader, should choose a book by an author they've never read at least once a year.  Yep, and I believe they should buy it, not borrow it. Though I have nothing against passing books around (better a book be read than not read!), it isn't the healthiest practice for the publishing industry.  Then, if the reader (or club) likes the book, I believe they should log on to Amazon.com or BN.com and write a little review. Then they should write an e-mail and tell one other reading friend about it.  Then they can go to bed that night (this one night of the year) knowing that they have done something to encourage new talent and done their part to keep our free press free and healthy enough to continue to publish books of all stripes, not only the ones that promise to be blockbusters.

Our freedom of ideas depends on that.

It's autumn, 1960, and JFK's presidential campaign heralds revolutionary changes in the American social and cultural landscape. In a specialized inner city Detroit high school, four teenage girls have established the roots of lasting friendship. Their backgrounds are different, but their passion for classical music and angst over raging hormones link them irrevocably.  In the midst of this milieu, four girlfriends maintain their mutual love and trust, and resolve to remain loyal "FourEver."  By Erica Miner. Order.

Terry Whalin will help you get on the right track. He and I met while speaking at a writers' conference. I loved what he had to say, bought his book on writing proposals by for my husband and highly recommend his advice.  He says:

"'You should write a book.'    "'Some day I'm going to write a book.'

"Over 80% of people plan to write a book and more than six million of them have already written a manuscript. Admittedly there are dozens of companies who will take your money and publish your book. How do you get a book publisher to pay you for your book?

"Former book acquisitions editor Terry Whalin says editors and publishers don't read manuscripts. They read book proposals. In BOOK PROPOSALS THAT SELL, 21 SECRETS TO SPEED YOUR SUCCESS, you learn the inside scoop to achieve your dreams."
